SANTO DOMINGO.- At the first CENI Expo Forum you will learn firsthand about relevant topics such as initiatives created in the Dominican Republic to strengthen state public policies, such as the law on promoting tourism development for underdeveloped areas and new ones in provinces and localities with great potential.
This is Law No. 158, approved by the National Congress on October 9, 2001, with the objective of accelerating the development process of the tourism industry in all regions with potential and natural conditions for tourism exploitation throughout the Dominican territory.
Through it, the Tourism Development Council (CONFOTUR) was created, with the purpose of applying the guidelines and creating the necessary conditions and facilities so that innovative tourism projects can benefit from the incentives granted by it.
The Technical Directorate of CONFOTUR is responsible for handling the technical matters arising from the application of Law No. 158-01 and its amendments.
Brenda Morales Mejía is the current head of that department and will be explaining the details of the law at Expo Foro CENI, an event that will take place on March 8, International Women's Day, at the Catalonia Hotel.
Morales has been part of the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) team since 2020 and was a member of the law firm Biaggi Abogados for eight years. He has also taught at the Faculty of Law at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU).
He has focused his work on corporate, commercial and business law, particularly in the corporate area; participating in corporate transactions and acquisitions in different industrial sectors.
Furthermore, she has worked on the reorganization of family and business groups. She also specializes in corporate and corporate structure, both at the corporate and family levels.
She practices in the areas of immigration law and permitting for projects in the tourism, free trade zone, and environmental sectors. She has served as legal counsel for major tourism groups and projects with investments in various regions of the country, complementing these areas with customs and tax law.
She is a graduate of PUCMM, Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra, where she graduated with a law degree, Magna Cum Laude, in 2004, in addition to pursuing postgraduate studies in International Trade Law at APEC University.
He also completed studies in entrepreneurial management / International Business Law at
Boston University, Massachusetts, United States; as well as various seminars, conferences and courses at the national and international level throughout his career.
Morales Mejía speaks Spanish, English, and French. He is a member of the Dominican Republic Bar Association and Stewart Title Santo Domingo.
