SANTO DOMINGO.- The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, received a collaborative visit in his office from Sakaguchi Kota, resident representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The activity covered topics related to the projects that the Ministry has pending with the Japanese agency.
Ascención said that the topics discussed have to do with pre-feasibility studies and subsequent design of a bridge to be built over the Ozama River (which will connect Manuela Diez Street, in the Mejoramiento Social sector, and Puerto Rico Street, in the Ozama expansion), and technical cooperation in the maintenance of bridges, especially rural bridges.
Japanese cooperation will contribute to the improvement of bridges in rural areas. (External source).
“With great hope of continuing to receive the cooperation that the Japanese people, through their international cooperation agency, have been providing to the Dominican Republic for 60 years,” he stated.
Kota said that JICA, throughout its six decades of cooperation with this country, "has always highly valued the training of human resources, because without this no structure works.".
“We emphasize the importance of improving the bridge structure because the city of Santo Domingo is growing at a very rapid pace,” he said.
Also participating in the meeting were Huáscar Peña, JICA's Project Director in the country, as well as the Vice Ministers of Planning and Technical Regulation, Ángel Tejeda; Luis Bastardo, of Road Maintenance, and Elías Santana, of Road Infrastructure, and the Director of Bridges, Romer Pérez.
