SANTO DOMINGO.– The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) announced that, as part of the road safety measures adopted for the 2025 Easter holiday , the circulation of cargo vehicles is prohibited throughout the national territory from Thursday, April 17 , until Monday, April 21.
Permits will only be granted to vehicles transporting goods considered priority or perishable , such as fuel, bottled water, food, medicines, medical equipment and hospital waste, quicklime for electricity generation, disposable packaging and paper, valuables and equipment for organizing events.
According to the entity, special circulation permits in the Restricted Access Zone (ZAR) will be valid from Thursday, April 17 ( Holy Thursday), starting at 6:00 a.m. , until Monday, April 21 at 5:00 a.m.
However, Intrant clarified that permits will not be issued for trucks with double tails or trailers, oversized loads, or overweight loads.
This restriction does not apply to vans, trucks, ambulances, emergency vehicles and those providing essential services such as water tankers, electricity maintenance, cable, telephone, sanitation, roadside assistance and urban cleaning, provided they are properly identified.
Cargo vehicles must not exceed 70 kilometers per hour on main roads, must keep their load secured without exceeding the bodywork and travel exclusively in the right lane.
Intrant reminded cargo vehicle owners of the obligation to register in the National Registry of Cargo Vehicles.
Those interested in obtaining circulation permits during Holy Week can apply now through the institution's official portal: www.intrant.gob.do, where they can make the payment online and receive the permit with a QR code for verification.
Failure to comply with this provision will be sanctioned with a minimum wage of the decentralized public sector, both to the owner and the driver, as established in article 281 of Law 63-17 and article 69 of Regulation 258-20 on cargo transport.
