Intrant announces a section of the Malecón will be pedestrianized this September 22nd for National Sustainable Mobility Week

SANTO DOMINGO.-With the pedestrianization of George Washington Avenue, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) will begin the celebration of the “National Sustainable Mobility Week 2024”, on the occasion of the commemoration of World Car-Free Day, this coming Sunday the 22nd.

With an itinerary from September 22 to 29, Intrant, together with public and private institutions, seeks to raise awareness among citizens and authorities about how to improve their quality of life, according to the way they get around.

Intrant's chief executive, Milton Morrison, called on citizens to reflect on how they travel and to join forces to drive a change towards more responsible and inclusive transportation.

The “National Sustainable Mobility Week” reaches its seventh edition, with the objective of promoting the benefits of using more sustainable transport such as public transport, bicycles, making journeys on foot and also providing information on the current Integrated Public Transport System (Metro-Cable Car-Public and Private Bus Corridors-Bicycles).

National Sustainable Mobility Week 2024

National Sustainable Mobility Week begins this Sunday the 22nd, with a bike ride starting early in the morning from Billini Park; in the afternoon the itinerary continues with the celebration of World Car-Free Day, with the pedestrianization of "Fun Routes" on George Washington Avenue, in the section of Presidente Vincent Street with Piña Street, in the National District.

On Monday the 23rd, INTEC University will host the documentary forum “In Motion: A Portrait of Mobility in Santo Domingo.” Additionally, workshops for public transportation drivers on assisting people with mobility impairments will be held at the headquarters of the Association of People with Physical-Motor Disabilities (Asodifimo).

On Wednesday the 25th, Intrant will hold the forum “Efficiency in Mobility: Optimizing travel time in the GSD”, at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library (UNPHU), and from the early morning hours of the 25th, 26th, and 27th, at the María Montez (km 9), Ulises Espaillat (Kennedy -Churchill) stations, and the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car terminal, plastic bottles (crushed) will be exchanged for a card that will be used in the Integrated Public Transportation System (SITP): OMSA, corridors, metro and cable car.

On Thursday the 26th, the mobility forum moves to the Santiago City Hall, and in Santo Domingo, at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University, the documentary forum “In Motion: a portrait of mobility in Santo Domingo” will be held; as well as talks on how to approach public transport drivers.

Finally, on Sunday the 29th, the closing of Sustainable Mobility Week will feature pedestrianization in Ensanche Naco and in the National District.
