SANTO DOMINGO – Her speech resonates powerfully, her words evoke strength. She is clear and direct. She knows what she is saying because she speaks her mind and what she believes in. She has a clear path in her career, she is convinced of her role as a woman, and even more importantly, she knows her worth. That is why the banner of her rights flies high.
“Where there is a man in charge, there is almost certainly a tremendous woman managing or advising, because we are the complement and the balance. We inject strength and courage into the man to stand firm in any position he finds himself in.” A feminist statement? You decide.
Her name is Yicauris Reyes, and she answers the question about the number of men leading in a sector like el inmobiliario which is dominated by remarkable women. This striking young woman is the business advisor for Inmobiliaria Grupal. She has only been in the real estate field for a year, but she possesses a remarkable confidence that rivals even the most seasoned professionals.
“For me, being a woman is a privilege and we should feel proud of how strong and daring we are, of what we have achieved and what we can achieve,” says the mother of Franyi Enmanuel (22), José Daniel (9) and Sara (2 years old).
She describes herself as the emotional support of her home, mother, partner, professional, friend, and administrator, says the valuable woman from the capital, who designs her agenda every day to fully meet her various roles.
Of real estate agents, she thinks that "we are exemplary women, fighters, entrepreneurs, tireless, because no matter the situation we go out every day to give our best face and attention to our clients... We are admirable.".
This empowered woman believes that, over time, women have increasingly earned admiration and respect in many sectors, demonstrating their ability to assume both male and female roles. "We lead, we manage, we do physically demanding work, and we make decisions in very important positions in society." However, she also believes there is still much ground to cover.
Brave, diligent and direct, three words that identify Yicauris, who defines herself as: “Energetic, strong, independent, fabulous, triumphant, honest, brave, enthusiastic, kind, loyal, expressive, warm, fighter and tireless.
She believes the Dominican Republic is on the path to valuing women in their true dimension. “We see every day how women represent us in the Presidential Palace, in Congress, in the private sector. There will always be people who, perhaps because they have some kind of disorder or a very low level of education, feel threatened by a woman, but every day fewer and fewer of them denigrate women,” she maintains.
Balancing multiple roles and responsibilities is no easy task for this warrior, as is raising and protecting her children, because she believes that the process of raising them goes far beyond providing shelter and food. “It’s also about a good education, values, quality time, and being a good professional, both to be a role model for them and to offer them everything they need. Sometimes you can even feel like you have no personal freedom.”.
In Women's History Month, this strong woman sends a message to the female population: "Woman, fight for your dreams, to achieve each of your goals. If you decide, nothing can stop you because you set your own limits.".
