How was Loany Lismeiry Ortiz Nova identified when she tried to cross from Colombia to Venezuela?

She reportedly traveled to Colombia to have nose surgery.

Loany Lismeiry Ortiz Nova, whom the Public Ministry identifies as the main defendant in the real estate fraud case known as the "Guepardo" case, was captured on February 14 when, passing through a Colombia Migration Tienditas bridge, she was asked for her identity document.

The Colombian newspaper La Opinión reveals that "it was a surprise to everyone that, when searching the database, they found that she had a red notice from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and was wanted for fraud .

Immigration authorities immediately notified the Metropolitan Police of Cúcuta , who arrived at this point on the Colombian-Venezuelan border in a short time.

It is noted that Ortiz Nova was transferred to the facilities of the Criminal Investigation Section (Sijín) in Cúcuta and after verifying the information they made the arrest official.

"Since last Friday, February 14, Loany Ortiz has been in the hands of the Police, and it is expected that in the coming days she will be handed over to the authorities of the Dominican Republic to advance her judicial process," the media outlet reports.

According to the publication, Ortiz Nova had traveled to Colombia to have nose surgery.

The case

On Friday, February 7, 2025, the La Romana Prosecutor's Office, together with the Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prosecutor's Office, launched the Guepardo case, which included a broad operation of 11 raids, arrests and seizures, for the Novasco Real Estate case, the company through which more than 120 people were allegedly defrauded, for an amount that would have been around more than 18 million dollars.

During the operation, Marisol Nova Nolasco and Rocío del Alba Rodríguez de Moya were arrested, later Yves Alexandre Giroux, named by the MP in the file of request for coercive measure, was handed over to the authorities.

Next Tuesday, February 25, the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the Judicial District of La Romana will hold the hearing to review the request for coercive measures prepared by the Public Ministry, which requests 18 months of imprisonment for the defendants and that the case be declared complex.
