The Dominican Republic has received 203,000 foreigners so far this month, 103% more than in April 2021 and 11.5% more than in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, Tourism Minister David Collado reported yesterday, Sunday.
SANTO DOMINGO- The average hotel occupancy rate in the Dominican Republic for this Holy Week is 74.6%, according to information provided by the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), which stated that these figures are almost similar to those of the years prior to the pandemic.
The president of the trade association, Rafael Blanco Tejera, stated that the tourism industry continues to experience remarkable growth, showing solid results in a recovery process that has been the product of a joint effort developed with the authorities.
“The tourism sector will continue to strengthen its operations to increase the capacity to respond to the number of visitors we receive each season and to continue contributing to the economy and the linkage of the productive sectors,” said Blanco Tejera.
The destinations leading in occupancy are Punta Cana and La Romana/Bayahíbe, each with 88.2% occupancy. They are followed by Samaná with 79%, Boca Chica and Juan Dolio with 71%, Puerto Plata with 66.3%, and Sosúa/Cabarete with 55%.
Asonahores stated that it will continue to promote initiatives that allow for greater expansion and investment opportunities for the Dominican tourism product in order to increase the number of tourists visiting the country.
Tourism in April surpasses pre-pandemic levels by 11.5%

Of the total tourists received during this period, 30% were from the United States and 11% from Canada, followed by tourists from England, Colombia, France, Germany, and Spain.
The minister noted that 62% of visitors arrived in the country through Punta Cana Airport in the east and 22% through Las Américas International Airport in the capital.
The Ministry of Tourism told Efe that this April is expected to be one of the best months in recent years for the sector, according to these figures for the first nine days of the month.
