SANTO DOMINGO- The Dominican government, through a tender published by the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (Fitram), called on Monday those interested residing in the Dominican Republic to submit proposals for the contracting of the design, manufacture, construction, assembly and commissioning of line 3 of the aerial cable system for the mass public passenger transport of Santo Domingo West.
A press release indicates that those interested in obtaining the Specific Terms and Conditions should download them from the Fitram Trust website www.fitram.gob.do, in order to properly submit their proposals.
It is noted that bids must be submitted in physical format and will be received from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the General Coordinating Office of Projects of Fitram, located at Avenida Bolívar 195, Torre Empresarial Bolívar, La Esperilla sector, Santo Domingo, National District.
Line 3 of the Santo Domingo Cable Car will connect kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway with the marginalized neighborhoods of Buenos Aires de Herrera, "Pintura" on 27 de Febrero Avenue, Ensanche Altagracia, El Café de Herrera, the Sánchez Highway, and the port of Haina. It represents an investment of approximately $250 million and will have a capacity of between 4,000and 6,000 passengers per hour.
The Integrated Transportation System of Santo Domingo (SIT-SD) is an initiative that addresses the problems of saturation and congestion in the city's transportation system by incorporating new modes of transport, with the goal of adding more than one million users to public transportation and reducing private vehicle traffic on our avenues.
The SIT-SD includes the physical, technological and fare integration of different mass transit modes, including the Santo Domingo tram, line 3 of the Santo Domingo cable car that will operate in Santo Domingo West, the Santo Domingo metropolitan train, the San Cristóbal train, the incorporation of urban interchanges, as well as the construction of 3 urban bus terminals.
Among the benefits this project will bring to the residents of the capital is the fact that it will allow for an increase in public transportation users to 1,529,000 passengers per day. It will also mean time savings for citizens per trip, from an hour and a half to 30 minutes, representing a 70% reduction. Furthermore, through the use of the integrated transportation fare, the projected savings is approximately 50% of the money Dominican families currently spend on transportation from their household budgets, Isa emphasized.
Another important element is the reduction of private vehicle traffic to 1,481,340 vehicles, compared to the 3,091,000 currently on the road. This will result in a reduction in traffic congestion from 8 km/hr to 15 km/hr, equivalent to a 50% decrease. In addition, CO2 emissions will be reduced by 50%, thus contributing to the country's commitments as a signatory to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
