Engineer provided evidence that Jean Alain received a bribe in the construction of the San Juan prison

SANTO DOMINGO.-In the indictment against the defendants in the Medusa case, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) presented evidence that Jean Alain Rodríguez allegedly received 20% as a bribe for the construction of the San Juan de la Maguana Correction and Rehabilitation Center.

Engineer Héctor Sánchez Ureña, representative of the construction company Grupo Keretaro, was a key figure in determining the charges. He told authorities that Jean Alain Rodríguez received bribes for the construction of the new Modelo prison in San Juan.

“Of the total contracted amount, the Attorney General’s Office paid Grupo Keretaro GK, SRL, the amount of DOP$ 749,359,455.06, who delivered in bribes to the corruption structure led by the accused Jean Alain Rodríguez Sánchez, the amount of DOP$ 90,329,000.00,” the file explains.

The prosecution's account shows that Sánchez voluntarily handed over documents proving that Jean Rodríguez received a 20% commission on the project, which has a budget exceeding 819 million pesos.

“When questioned by the Public Ministry, engineer Héctor Manuel Sánchez Ureña stated that he made deliveries to Víctor Manuel Lora Imbert at his residence, from January 2019 to May 2020, for the amount of DOP$ 90,329,000.00, divided into six (06) cash installments,” the prosecutors maintain.

The PEPCA (Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption) asserts that the building was not completed on schedule due to structural irregularities, such as a lack of sanitary and electrical plans. "The architectural plans included private land within the buildings, and the layout of the buildings had to be redistributed," the report states.

Sánchez owns the construction company Keretaro, which was unable to complete the project due to extortion and bribery. In the indictment, Sánchez states that many of the resources intended for the San Juan prison were used in other prisons, all authorized by the defendant Jenny Marte.

"Similarly, engineer Jenny Marte demanded that Héctor Sánchez Ureña carry out a series of works in other prisons, with materials from the CCR San Juan de la Maguana, which were supposed to have been carried out by contractors from this prison," the indictment states.
