SANTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that during the second phase of the Christmas Operation Awareness for Life 2025-2026, 10,998 assistance services were provided to the public throughout the national territory, in an operation that has so far resulted in 8 deaths.
The report corresponds to the period between 6:00 a.m. on December 31, 2025 and 6:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026, according to bulletin number two issued by the agency.
Accidents, fatalities and poisonings
The official report indicates that during the last 24 hours, 48 traffic accidents were recorded on highways, roads, streets and avenues of the country, with a total of 61 people affected.
Of the total accidents reported, 34 involved motorcycles, eight light vehicles, four pedestrian accidents, and two trucks.
Additionally, eight people died as a result of traffic accidents, three of which occurred within the road safety device and five outside of it.
The bulletin also notes that 121 people were treated for alcohol poisoning, including 20 minors between the ages of 11 and 17, as well as 19 cases of food poisoning.
Traffic management and inspections
The document specifies that the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) maintained supervision of 93 signalized intersections and monitoring of the main access and exit routes of Greater Santo Domingo.
As a result of these actions, traffic light timings were optimized at 35 intersections and 25 system failures were corrected, in addition to the issuance of permits for the transport of fuel and perishable food cargo.
The General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) carried out 10,003 inspections for various violations of Law 63-17, according to the report.
Roadside assistance and healthcare
The COE report states that the Military and Police Commission of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) provided 525 roadside assistance services on highways and roads throughout the country.
In the health sector, the National Health Service (SNS) reported 621 visits to hospitals in the public network, while the Directorate of Out-of-Hospital Emergency Care Services (DAEH) reported the assistance of 321 people during the evaluated period.
