Education: the most important thing Samaná needs for tourism development, say community representatives

“We have many dream projects for this place. Among them are a village and a boutique hotel. But today we came specifically to present what we believe is most important for this place: education, and that's where the development of years of study to create the Bayacú School comes from.”.

This is how the singer-songwriter and president of the Montaner Foundation, Ricardo Montaner, expressed himself, referring to the tourist destination Samaná, which he defined as his home and where he understands that the most important thing is to promote education.

His words were expressed during the IX Annual Meeting for Tourism Development of Samaná, which this year used as its motto "Samaná, education and competitiveness in a destination", an event developed by the Samaná Tourism Cluster (CTS) and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA).

Montaner said he hopes the Bayacú school "can be built by all those who want to join," the singer-songwriter explained.

The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA), Juan Bancalari, stated that for Samaná to continue developing and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, it is necessary to raise its educational level and for the preparation of its workforce to be on par with that of competitors in the region.

“Our main objective as a Cluster is to promote the tourism development of the province of Samaná, in such a way that the economic boom that the tourism industry usually generates in the areas where it is established, is firstly seen by all its inhabitants and secondly, enjoyed by them so that this serves, fundamentally, to raise their standards of living and, with it, spread progress and happiness,” Durán said in his opening speech at the event.

Enrique Darwin Caraballo, executive director of Business Action for Education (EDUCA), spoke about the state of education in the Dominican Republic and in the province of Samaná, as well as the opportunities for change.

Ana María Landucci, managing partner of Ackermann Colombia, agreed with them and expressed that “from different perspectives, we face great challenges and realities that make it increasingly relevant for us to unite (government entities, educational institutions, organizations, philanthropy, among others) for greater access to the development and retention of the highest quality talent.
