More than 7,100 penalties have been applied for improper transfers.
SANTO DOMINGO- The RD Se Mueve plan completed more than 70% of the actions planned in its first stage, generating improvements of up to 30% in the main roads of Greater Santo Domingo.
This was announced yesterday by the Transportation Cabinet, when it presented a report on the first phase of the plan, which according to government authorities has had a direct impact on urban mobility, reflected in shorter travel times, greater traffic flow and a reduction in congestion during peak hours.
"The results demonstrate coordinated and efficient management, with positive effects on urban planning and road safety," government representatives highlighted yesterday at a press conference.
Among the measures implemented were the management of working hours in 137 public institutions, benefiting more than 70,000 employees; the optimization of traffic lights in 11 of 14 main corridors; the restriction of turns at 15 strategic intersections ; the implementation of contraflow lanes; and the regulation of parking in critical areas.
In terms of enforcement, more than 700 DIGESETT officers were equipped with body cameras to strengthen control and transparency on the roads. Since the plan's inception, more than 5,200 illegally parked and more than 7,100 citations have been issued for improper turns. The Santo Domingo Metro's operational capacity was also expanded, reducing queues and improving the user experience.
The performance ceremony was led by former Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, coordinator of the Transport Cabinet, who emphasized that these advances consolidate structural changes in traffic management and the public transport system.
Ascención was accompanied by the executive director of INTRANT, Milton Morrison; the general director of DIGESETT, General Pascual Cruz Méndez, PN; the executive director of the Mobility and Transportation Trust (FIMOVIT), Ricardo Roque; the director of the Military and Police Commission (COMIPOL), Colonel Luis Rafael Herrera Almonte, ERD; the representative of OPRET, José Adolfo Herrera; and the representatives of the Office of Urban and Interurban Mobility Project Development, Yamel Batista and Rosa Mena.
It included technical details on the results obtained in this first stage, as well as projections for the following phases of the plan. The official document attributes the progress to inter-institutional coordination and the comprehensive approach of the measures adopted.
The Transportation Cabinet is made up of 17 public institutions linked to mobility, oversight and management of urban transport, including the Ministry of the Presidency, INTRANT, OMSA, OPRET, MOPC, FITRAM, DIGESETT, Parquéate RD, FIMOVIT, COMIPOL, RD Vial, the 9-1-1 System, MAP, MINERD and the Ministry of Labor.
