SANTO DOMINGO- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported this Thursday that 97 homes have been affected in Greater Santo Domingo, along with other material damage, as a result of the rains of the last few days, caused by the passage of a trough in the national territory.
According to a preliminary report from Civil Defense, in the Los Girasoles sector of the National District, 41 homes were affected by the overflow of the Arroyo Manzano ravine, of which eight families were displaced to the homes of friends and relatives.
In the Arroyo Hondo sector, some 53 homes were affected, of which 13 people were displaced, due to the overflow of the El Aguacate ravine; likewise, in Los Guandules, two houses were also damaged.
Meanwhile, in Santo Domingo Oeste, in the Las Hortalizas de Herrera sector, a landslide occurred, affecting two houses. No casualties were reported.
In Santo Domingo Norte, the National Emergency and Security System 9-1-1 reported a person trapped in a collapsing house in the El Edén sector of Villa Mella, block 25 in front of the sports field. The person was rescued by the fire department.
Northern Zone
Meanwhile, in the northern zone, in the provinces of Hermanas Mirabal, Salcedo, Valverde and La Vega, urban flooding, cracks in asphalt, and landslides were reported.
In Puerto Plata, the Bajabonico River increased its flow and broke the ford that connects Imbert with Saballo and La Piragua, leaving both communities isolated.
In Santiago Rodríguez, about 10 families were preventively evacuated, for a total of 50 people displaced to the homes of relatives and friends.
Recommendations
The COE recommends that the population refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high volumes of water, avoid using swimming areas and follow the guidelines and instructions of civil protection agencies.
As for residents in high-risk areas who live near rivers, streams and ravines, they should be alert and take the necessary precautions against possible flash floods and surges.
They also suggest staying in contact with Civil Defense, the Armed Forces, the Red Cross, the National Police, Fire Departments and this Emergency Operations Center through Tel: 809-472-0909, 9.1.1, *462 of OPTIC.
