SANTO DOMINGO.-The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported in bulletin #4 that some 547 homes have suffered damage from the rains caused by Tropical Storm Franklin as it passed through Dominican territory.
According to the bulletin, two other homes were also partially affected by damage caused by the heavy rains recorded since Wednesday morning nationwide.
In addition, some 280 people have been moved to a safe place, according to the COE, while some 312 people are in one of the shelters set up in the country by the rapid action agency.
The locations where there are displaced people and in shelters are concentrated in the south of the country, such as San Cristóbal, Pedernales, Barahona, San Juan and Azua, likewise there are people in shelters in El Seibo, La Altagracia, Monte Plata and Hato Mayor.
The COE maintains 25 provinces on red alert due to the incidence of rain, while another seven are under yellow alert.
The provinces of Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, María Trinidad Sánchez, Distrito Nacional, La Romana, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, La Altagracia, Peravia, Azua, La Vega, Barahona, Pedernales, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, Bahoruco, Hato Mayor, Independencia, Elías Piña, El Seibo, Puerto Plata, Duarte, Samaná and Sánchez Ramírez are under red alert.
Meanwhile, Dajabón, Montecristi, Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago and Valverde remain under yellow alert.
Recommendations
The agency maintains the recommendations to follow the instructions and guidance of civil protection agencies and to stay in contact with Civil Defense, the Armed Forces, the National Police and the 9-1-1 Emergency Response System.
Residents in vulnerable areas where rivers, streams, and ravines may overflow are urged to take necessary precautions against flash floods.
