SANTO DOMINGO.-The president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Héctor Porcella, announced this Thursday the growth in air frequencies, operations that are reaching optimal levels and that currently register up to 200 daily frequencies, reflecting a constantly growing market that energizes the sector.
“Ongoing collaboration with airlines and other stakeholders in the aviation sector has allowed us to expand air routes, significantly increasing travel opportunities for Dominican users,” said the organization's president.
In that regard, the official reported that the members of the plenary were informed of the request for special permission from the foreign air operator West Jet Airline, to fly on the Calgary/Punta Cana route, from November 2, 2024 to April 26, 2025.
According to data from the Statistics Division of the Air Transport Directorate of the Civil Aviation Board, from January 2023 to August 2024, WestJet Airlines transported 401,990 passengers in 2,513 operations carried out in arrivals and departures.
During the plenary meeting, held yesterday Wednesday October 9, the JAC plenary also learned of the request for a special permit to fly on the Keflavik, Iceland/Punta Cana route, and vice versa, starting in November of this year.
“The binational relationship is not limited to the main cities of the Caribbean region, it also extends to destinations like Iceland,” said Porcella, thus expanding the country's connectivity with other destinations around the world, fostering the growth of air transport.
Likewise, during the review of the request, Porcella stated that the Dominican Republic's air transport policy aims to promote the development of air transport, expand the range of airport services, provide more competitive prices to users, increase foreign exchange earnings, and achieve a better positioning of our country as a tourist destination through increased air connectivity.
“We will continue working as a team, so that civil aviation becomes safer, more solid, stronger and obviously more growing every day to strengthen air connectivity in the country,” reiterated the president of the JAC as he and the other members of the plenary were informed of the request to amend Air Europa's operating permit to include the Madrid/Santiago route.
