Government announces plan to build and renovate 49 sports facilities in the GSD

SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader held a luncheon yesterday, Wednesday, with representatives of the main sports clubs in Greater Santo Domingo, where he announced that the construction plan for these multipurpose spaces will begin in January.

The president assured that these facilities will play a key role in various sectors and will be fundamental to the fulfillment of several public policy objectives.

“These multipurpose facilities are essential for each sector and for more than one public policy objective. With this infrastructure, the landscape will change for the better, and it helps us achieve another public policy objective: keeping our youth engaged in healthy activities, such as sports,” Abinader stated.

He asserted that this investment has a great sense of social feasibility for society, the government, and families.

“You are fundamental to all the social objectives we have, and that is why we are here supporting you and we are going to support you even more, we are going to dedicate more resources to work together, for a better quality of life for your sector, which is fundamental for our country and our young people,” the governor emphasized.

Works in progress

For his part, the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, announced that the construction of the San Andrés-Boca Chica Community Sports Center and the renovation of the Esmeraldo Soto Sports Complex in Los Prados, National District, are currently underway in the province of Santo Domingo.

He also announced that the construction of the multipurpose building in Ensanche Ozama is underway; as well as the repair of the Las Caobas multipurpose building in Santo Domingo Oeste; the repair of the Pedro Brand multipurpose building and the repair of the Fondo Clubes premises in Villa Juana.

Similarly, the repairs to the courts at Club Bonito, San Isidro; Ciudad Real and Palmero, in Santo Domingo Norte; the open basketball court at El Túnel; the roof repairs at Las Cañitas, in the National District; and the repairs to the CDS Community Sports Center in San Luis, among others, throughout Greater Santo Domingo.

For a total of 49 multipurpose clubs under construction and implementation. 

Those present included the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre; the Director of Inefi, Alberto Rodríguez Mella; the President of the Presidential Commission for Support to Provincial Development, Ángel de la Cruz; the Presidents of Centro Caribe Sports, Luisín Mejía, and of Fedoclubes, Roberto Ramírez, among others.
