PEDERNALES.- Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Port Authority (Apordom), said last weekend that according to projections, the Cabo Rojo cruise port will close the year with the arrival of 20,000 passengers and in 2025 expects to receive 150,000 cruise passengers.
The official provided the information while accompanying the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, on a tour that included a visit to the cruise port and other areas where the Vice President was able to verify the improvements of the first phase and the progress of the second phase of the project.
The Vice President traveled to the southern region to inaugurate a fishing pier in the province. She also inaugurated the Salinas fishing pier in Baní, a project built at a cost of RD$22,156,735.47.
The head of Apordom highlighted the importance of these projects that are changing the lives of thousands of fishermen nationwide.

“This space is a symbol of hope and progress for this hardworking fishing community of Pedernales. We remain focused on improving the lives of our fishermen and their families, offering them the opportunity to make a living from their trade more securely, and with guarantees of growth, as has been the vision of our President Luis Abinader,” said Jean Luis Rodríguez.
He stated that this project "is a new chapter that marks the beginning of a safer, more active and productive fishing and, moreover, a dream come true for the fishermen of Pedernales, and that seeks to boost the activity of this important sector.".
The construction of the fishing pier in Cabo Rojo consists of two breakwaters with a total area of 395 m² and has capacity for 10 larger vessels and 44 smaller vessels simultaneously. It also features a metal superstructure, among other specifications, representing an investment of RD$35,935,518.78, according to a press release.
Meanwhile, the construction of the fishing pier in Salinas consists of two breakwaters and three walkways with a total area of 185.20 m². It also has a capacity for five larger vessels and 22 smaller vessels simultaneously.
Both projects are part of the “National Plan for the Construction and Rehabilitation of Fishing Piers”.

During Saturday's events, the vice president visited the model room of the Iberostar, the first hotel to open its doors in Cabo Rojo.
This is a Family Plus Slow Standard room, measuring 77 m². It features state-of-the-art technology to enhance the guest experience, including automated systems for lighting and climate control, as well as advanced connectivity services.
This hotel will be the first to partially begin operations at the end of this year and is designed under the principles of sustainability, modernity and integration with nature.
The Cabo Rojo tourism development project in Pedernales is the biggest bet made by the Dominican Government, headed by the Presidentofthe Republic, Luis Abinader, to boost the economic growth of the Southern region, under a concept of environmental and social sustainability.
