Asonahores begins its trade fair in Punta Cana with positive projections for Dominican tourism

"The contribution and evolution of the tourism industry in the Dominican economy is part of the most important transformations of the productive apparatus, presenting a multiplier effect among the different demands for goods and services that it generates," the businessman pointed out.

PUNTA CANA - The Dominican tourism sector expects that by the end of the year, foreign direct investment will reach US$1 billion, through the arrival of seven million tourists to the country, which is the number projected by national authorities for 2022.

Rafael Blanco Tejera, president of Asonahores, the National Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic, stated at the opening of the organization's XXXIV Trade Show that the arrival of visitors to the Dominican Republic will generate US$8.4 billion in 2022

“The contribution and evolution of the tourism industry in the Dominican economy is part of the most important transformations of the productive apparatus, presenting a multiplier effect among the different demands for goods and services that it generates,” the businessman pointed out.

He indicated that in recent years there has been greater foreign direct investment, greater job creation and foreign exchange earnings, with the hotel, bar and restaurant sector being the largest contributor to the growth of the Dominican economy so far this year.

He also highlighted that tourism represents more than 16% of GDP, an important and direct contribution to the Dominican economy, and pointed out that for the period 2009-2019, tourist demand generated a GDP of US$85,468 million, equivalent to one year of the total GDP of the economy.

About the fair

The exhibition brings together all national and international suppliers of products and services through a robust commercial exchange for the industry and all complementary activity.

“This new edition offers a broad portfolio of proposals, reaffirming its position as the ideal platform with the greatest impact and relevance for the players in this large sector,” Blanco added.

This year's trade show will feature more than 400 stands and around 200 participating companies, including suppliers and sponsors.

New features

Among the new features to be presented this year, this stage will host the launch of “Restaurant Week Punta Cana”, from October 19 to 23, an event that Asonahores organizes together with the Dominican Association of Restaurants (Aderes), exporting the “Restaurant Week” experience to new culinary horizons.

Regarding that aspect of the event, Andrés Marranzini, executive vice president of the entity, referred to the more than 4,000 square meters enabled in the facilities of Blue Mall Puntacana, to accommodate the universe of exhibitors, sponsors and visitors who will be part of this 34th edition of the exhibition.
