The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) said that it is providing citizens with a renovated infrastructure that will contribute not only to streamlining traffic, but also to guaranteeing and extending the useful life of one of the main road connections in the Dominican Republic.
SANTO DOMINGO. – With an investment of around RD$60 million pesos, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) yesterday delivered the renovated Juan Pablo Duarte bridge, which connects the National District with the municipality of Santo Domingo East. Authorities stated at the reopening that the refurbishment is projected to extend its useful life to 20 years.
Deligne Ascención, the minister of the government agency, explained that the work carried out included replacing all of the expansion joints, complete resurfacing, and maintenance of the railings. In addition, the bridge underwent resurfacing, new asphalt was laid, horizontal and vertical signage was installed, and the railings were maintained.
Ascensión, speaking at a press conference held at the western end of the bridge, explained that the repair of the structure was a necessity, due to the deterioration accumulated in recent years.
“Today we are formally delivering to the public the completed works, which consisted of the total removal of the joints on the Juan Pablo Duarte Bridge, the resurfacing of the roadway, and the refurbishment of its railings. Likewise, its signage will be completed with the installation of road studs and thermoplastic paint,” stated Deligne Ascención.
He stated that it provides citizens with a renovated infrastructure that will contribute not only to speeding up traffic on these roads but also to guaranteeing and extending the useful life of one of the main road infrastructures in the Dominican Republic.
The official was accompanied by the director of Digesset, General Ramón Guzmán Peralta; Mélito Santana, Vice Minister of Road Maintenance; Alejandro Brito, Director of Road Paving; Efraín Marte, Director of Road Signage; Ramón Gómez, from the Pinsa company that was in charge of the viaduct renovation work, among others.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and the various institutions linked to road infrastructure adopted a series of measures to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular traffic on the bridge, a structure that is used daily by more than 35,000 vehicles between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
