In Santiago, the explosion of a water pipe caused the collapse of a section of Las Carreras Avenue this Thursday, in the section of Sánchez corner Cuba streets, on whose road a collapse occurred less than a year ago.
The deep break has complicated the regular flow of vehicles on this busy road in the so-called Heart City, while a brigade from the Santiago Water and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan) is on site to correct the problem.
The incident occurred when vehicular traffic increased on this avenue, whose terrain is saturated due to the rains and where work is being carried out for the construction of the monorail.
The regional director of the Ministry of Public Works, Alexis Sosa, stated that a team of technicians is on site to provide all necessary assistance to Coraasan.
Sosa explained that in the same place where the breakdown occurred, teams that are building the monorail have been carrying out drilling where they are conducting soil studies.
Meanwhile, Coraasan reported in a statement that they are already working on the problem.
“We suggest that drivers traveling on Las Carreras Avenue at the corner of Cuba Street take precautions due to a sinkhole that appeared this Thursday morning in both lanes of the road caused by a break in the 16-inch water line,” the entity explained in a statement.
He indicated that the upper part of the city center will not have service until the fault is corrected.
Several members of the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) are also present at the scene.
