The country registers a 5.9 magnitude earthquake

SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Seismological Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that yesterday, Monday, June 24, 2025, an earthquake was recorded in the Dominican Republic, with a magnitude of 5.9.

He also indicated that the earthquake occurred around 10:45 pm, at a depth of 10.7 kilometers.

Seismology also reported that the earthquake had its epicenter in the Mona Passage, 103.9 kilometers east of the community of Miches, El Seibo.

The earthquake may have caused damage to buildings with weak structures, according to the reported magnitude. So far, no casualties or major damage have been confirmed, but authorities are urging the public to remain alert for possible aftershocks.
