SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) presented the Epifanio Lantigua National Grand Prize for Tourism Journalism last night, October 22, to journalist Ivonne Ferreras for her report “Sargassum, an environmental plague that extends its tentacles over the coastline and affects tourism,” published in the newspaper Panorama.
Meanwhile, Luisa Blanco, a journalist for the newspaper Hoy, won in the written press category for her series of works on "The splendor and appeal of the Colonial City.".
At the ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel and presided over by the president of Adompretur, Yenny Polanco Lovera, the award winners were also Alexander Martínez, from the program Rutas y Rincones, in the Television or YouTube Report category, and Eliezer Tapia from the newspaper El Nacional, in the Photography category.
Jessica Bonifacio from the newspaper El Caribe won in the Gastronomy category; journalists Jessica Leonor and Daniela Pujols, from the newspaper Diario Libre, won in the Art and Culture category; and in the Northern Region category, Máximo Reynoso Vásquez from the program “Al Máximo TV” won.
In addition to winning the Grand Prize, Ivonne Ferreras was also awarded in print media for her work "Airbnb needs urgent regulation and systematization in accommodation quality"; while in digital media, Massiel De Jesús and Ramón Fari won.
Lázaro Medina Familia, from the newspaper El Nacional, received a special mention for his series of works “Rivers and Spas”, Katheryn Luna, from Acento.com.do, was also recognized.
The winner of the 'Grand Prize' received RD$85,000.00 and two Arajet airline tickets, and the other winners received a prize of RD$50,000.00, a certificate, and a solid bronze trophy by the sculptor Rafael Bueno, made in the "El Artístico" workshops in the province of La Romana.
Sixty-one journalists were nominated for the award. The jury consisted of Tony Pérez, Luis Felipe Aquino, Gustavo Olivo Peña, Esteban Rosario, Rosanna Figueroa, Aurelio Henríquez, Bolívar Troncoso, Oscar Peña, José Antonio Aybar, José Mármol, and Edgar Lantigua.
