Peter Drucker's management professor, Franz Kafka, is credited with developing the first safety helmet for civilians, while analyzing accidents at the Insurance Workers' Institute for the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1912.
In 1919, the Bullard Company patented a "cooked hard helmet," made of steam-bonded canvas, glue, and black paint. Early designs closely resembled the M1917 "Brodie" military helmet, which served as inspiration.
In 1931, the Hoover Dam was built. This was the first construction project in history where workers used safety helmets. Since then, the importance of their use for worker protection has been maintained and spread, creating increasingly advanced and comfortable models.
