SANTO DOMINGO– Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of the Dominican Republic's Export and Investment Center (ProDominicana), indicated that US investments in the Dominican Republic reached a historic record of $1,362.3 million, exhibiting an annual growth rate of 87% compared to 2020 and 45% in relation to 2021, according to official data from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.

According to a press release, US investors continue to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the economy , with the highest flow in the last decade, accumulating 44% of the total foreign investment received, which amounted to 3,102.1 million dollars in 2021.

Riveiro highlighted that this flow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) accumulated last year is the third highest amount in the last 20 years of capital attraction, and is undoubtedly the result of the joint effort between the different levels of Government, the promotion and support of the private sector already established in the country.

It is important to highlight the investment from Panama, which totaled approximately $98 million, the highest figure since 2009, and similarly, Switzerland with $23 million, a figure higher than in any previous year up to 2008.

“This performance in attracting investment is a result of the country’s strategic participation in international events and trade fairs, and the increased number of trade missions we promote through ProDominicana. This is coupled with actions such as high-impact diplomatic missions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies and consulates, concrete efforts to promote nearshoring and strengthen the Dominican Republic as a logistics hub by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the General Directorate of Customs, respectively. Furthermore, the strengthening of the tourism sector, which continues to be key to the recovery, and the outstanding economic performance shown by the country in the last year have also contributed,” Riveiro emphasized.
