SANTIAGO.-Two houses collapsed around noon this Wednesday in Hoyo de Baitola, in this municipality, an area considered high risk by the authorities.

There are no reports of people injured by the collapse of the houses, which were built of wood and zinc.

The victims were temporarily sheltered in the homes of family and friends.

Francisco Arias, director of Civil Defense in Santiago, urged the owners of three other homes, located near the two that collapsed, to leave the area.

He said the measure seeks to protect the physical integrity of families in the event of further landslides in that area.

The settlement known as Hoyo de Baitola is located near the Gurabo. The government recently began restoration work on this tributary.

In addition to the river cleanup, the families will be relocated to a safe space in the La Canela municipal district, where they will build a housing complex.
