The “Explore the Urban Center of San Pedro” Cultural Route will be launched, allowing visitors to enjoy a free tour of some of the city's most emblematic places.
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Malecón of San Pedro de Macorís will become the epicenter of the “Tourism in Every Corner” experience this coming weekend, May 31 and June 1, a platform promoted by the Ministry of Tourism that seeks to promote and support local tourism.
The initiative aims to coordinate all tourism offerings, integrating all sectors that make up the province of San Pedro de Macorís and its municipalities, highlighting its attractions and promoting the region's rich cultural heritage.
Through this platform, TECR implements a comprehensive strategy to give visibility at the local level and promote, both nationally and internationally, the outstanding tourist, cultural and historical attractions of the province.
This includes ecotourism, gastronomy, crafts, and folk traditions that characterize San Pedro de Macorís.
The activity also impacts the creative economy, benefiting sectors such as transportation, agriculture, hospitality, commerce, as well as the food and beverage industry in the participating localities.
This edition will feature more than 50 exhibitors and a vibrant agenda of artistic and cultural activities, including the participation of 160 local talents, artisans and diverse gastronomic offerings.
In addition, the "Explore the Historic Center of San Pedro" Cultural Route will be launched, allowing visitors to enjoy a free tour of some of the city's most emblematic sites. This tour will include visits to the San Pedro Apóstol Cathedral, the San Pedro de Macorís History Museum, and the fascinating Urban Murals.
Also highlighted will be the Petromacorisano Baseball Player Museum, as well as the recently renovated Duarte Street, which houses the neoclassical-style Fire Station, built in 1903, and the iconic Morey Building, the first reinforced concrete structure in the country.
These sites are an integral part of the province's rich history and architectural heritage, offering visitors a deep immersion in local culture and traditions.
About San Pedro de Macorís
This province is made up of six municipalities: San Pedro de Macorís, San José de los Llanos, Ramón Santana, Consuelo, Quisqueya and Guayacanes, as well as two municipal districts: El Puerto and Gautier.
Located in the eastern region of the country, known as the "Sultana of the East", San Pedro de Macorís is recognized as one of the main Dominican provinces, cradle of outstanding baseball players who have shone in the Major Leagues and prominent figures in the literary field, in addition to its rich tradition in sugar production.
One of the cultural gems of the region is Los Guloyas, which has been declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, highlighting the rich cultural heritage that can be experienced in the province.
Tourism in Every Corner
“Tourism in Every Corner” is a pioneering platform for promoting and supporting local tourism, with a focus on sustainability and inclusion. Officially launched in August 2022, this campaign seeks to foster the connection between knowledge about tourism products and community development, inviting all Dominicans to explore their country and enjoy its diversity.
This effort involves the main actors in the value chain of each territory, promoting sustainable management and development.
To date, the initiative has had a presence in the provinces of Hermanas Mirabal, Monseñor Nouel, María Trinidad Sánchez, Espaillat, Monte Plata, Azua and Monte Cristi, including a prominent meeting at the “Son de KeKa” event in Santiago.
