SANTO DOMINGO.– University students interested in participating in the photography contest “Inhabited History: Chronicles of Life in the Colonial City” will be able to access specialized training promoted by the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster to strengthen their visual proposals about the capital's historic center.
The initiative consists of an environmental photography and urban sustainability workshop that will serve as a training space to guide participants in the creation of documentary images focused on heritage, community, environment and daily life within the Colonial City.
The program is part of the complementary activities of the competition, whose call for entries will be open until July 21, 2026, and which invites participants to portray human and everyday scenes beyond the monumental image of the area.
Over several days, students will work on topics related to architecture and nature, heritage conservation, sustainable mobility, waste management and urban dynamics, developing photographic portfolios from a social and environmental perspective.
The proposal aims to have participants not only take photographs, but also learn to build visual narratives about the relationship between tourism, heritage and sustainability within one of the most emblematic historical spaces in the country.
The “Inhabited History” contest was recently presented by the Association of Owners and Residents of Colonial City (APRECC), the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, the Center for Image and the Spanish Cultural Center.
As part of the workshop's closing activities, the selected students will participate in an educational experience in Punta Cana with the Grupo Puntacana Foundation, where they will learn about projects related to environmental conservation and tourism sustainability.
The agenda includes visits to the Sustainability Center, the Ojos Eco Journey tour, and the Marine Innovation Center in Playa Blanca.
With this initiative, the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster incorporates an educational component into the photography competition, focused on visual training, sustainability and documentation of urban heritage.
