“Instantes de Italia” offers a space to discover and reinterpret Italy from a Dominican perspective, allowing each image to tell a story and reflect the ties that unite both countries
SANTO DOMINGO. The Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic presented the first edition of the photography contest “Instants of Italy: Italy through the Dominican gaze”, an initiative that seeks to strengthen cultural ties between both nations through art and creativity.
The proposal invites Dominican photographers, amateurs and photography lovers to showcase, from their own perspective, the landscapes, traditions, architecture, culture and other elements that represent the essence of Italy.
A Dominican perspective on Italy
During the launch, representatives of the diplomatic corps, allied institutions, sponsors and special guests learned the details of the call for entries, which proposes photography as a means to generate dialogue between Italian and Dominican cultures.
Celinés Toribio, ambassador, vice minister and executive director of the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), sent a message highlighting the value of initiatives that promote identity, cultural exchange and closer ties between Dominicans and other communities.
Ambassador highlights link between both nations
The Italian ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Sergio Maffettone, delivered the keynote address and emphasized that the competition represents an opportunity to continue strengthening the historical and cultural relationship between Italy and the Dominican Republic.
The event also included the participation of Ángelo Viro, president of the Casa de Italia, and Nicole Medina, Communications Advisor for the Vice Ministry for Dominican Communities Abroad, who attended on behalf of Celinés Toribio.
Two flights to Italy among the prizes
One of the main attractions of this first edition is the prizes for the selected photographic entries. These include two flights to Italy, courtesy of Neos Air, as well as other awards and surprises for the participants.
The Italian Embassy reported that the names of the winners will be officially announced during the month of December, as part of the closing of this first edition.
A closing with an Italian flavor
The launch concluded with a toast and a special performance by violinist Eva Cammaro, who offered a musical show inspired by Italian artistic tradition.
The initiative is supported by the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), Neos Air, Casa de Italia, Alive Healthy Food and Mionetto Prosecco.
More than a photographic competition, “Instantes de Italia” offers a space to discover and reinterpret Italy from a Dominican perspective, allowing each image to tell a story and reflect the ties that unite both countries.
With this contest, the Italian Embassy said it seeks to continue promoting cultural exchange and creativity, while inviting Dominicans to explore, observe and capture through their lenses what identifies and connects Italy with the Dominican Republic.
