SANTO DOMINGO- Starting next Tuesday, May 2nd, new RD$200.00 and RD$50.00 bills will be in circulation, as reported yesterday by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
The monetary authority indicated in statements that these banknotes, whose manufacture was ordered through an international public tender in January 2022, contain the same security features as the banknotes currently in circulation, which will maintain their legal tender status for the payment of all public and private obligations.
The Central Bank explains in the statement the content and characteristics of the new banknotes issued.
Both have the same security features, except that the RD$200.00 bill has a watermark that the RD$50.00 bill does not.
These are the security measures, as described by the Central Bank:
1. Year. Located at the bottom of the side of the banknote, it allows us to identify the year in which its manufacture was ordered.
2. Watermark (only on RD$200). Image of the patriot Juan Pablo Duarte, which becomes visible when the banknote is held up to the light, accompanied on the right by the denomination value “200” horizontally.
3. Marks of the blind. Geometric figure in high relief located on the upper left edge.
4. Latent image. Small inverted lines forming an engraving with the initials “BCRD”. It can be observed at a certain angle, with the aid of light.
5. Security thread. A thin strip containing the banknote's denomination and a color-changing design that shifts from magenta to green and is combined with the logo. On the obverse, it is visible through a window on the surface of the paper, and on the reverse, it is embedded within the paper.
6. Horizontal numbering. Identification number of each banknote, located on the upper left side. This is the same as the vertical numbering.
7. Vertical numbering. Identification number of each banknote, located on the right side. This numbering is the same as the horizontal numbering.
8. Microprints. Inscriptions in very small letters, which at first glance appear as a solid line, but which can be appreciated with the help of a magnifying glass or lens.
9. Isotype with the visual identity of the BCRD. Accompanied by the denomination value in numeric characters, which together change color from magenta to green, printed with optically variable ink.
