SANTO DOMINGO- The Strategic Projects and Special Programs of the Presidency (Propeep) and the San Pedro de Macorís City Councilsigned an inter-institutional collaboration agreement this Monday that seeks to provide decent housing and essential basic services to 50 families affected by Hurricane George.
The agreement was signed by Neney Cabrera, Minister of Propeep, and Raimundo Ortiz, Mayor of San Pedro, who indicated that the purpose is to develop capacities that reduce poverty and social exclusion, with a comprehensive approach, based on co-responsibility between the central government and local administrations.
Cabrera said that the signing of this agreement gives him great satisfaction, because they have identified an urgent need, since these are people who have lived in situations of great poverty and vulnerability for almost 25 years, which gives him the opportunity to come to the aid of these families and bring them solutions.
“That is what is called good governance, that each institution, together, can generate solutions to the problems that afflict the communities,” Cabrera said.
The official maintained that by bringing solutions to the difficulties and shortcomings faced by these citizens, the government of President Luis Abinader is fulfilling one of the central pillars of the National Development Strategy, which is to provide decent housing to every Dominican.
For his part, Mayor Raymundo Ortiz thanked President Luis Abinader for his support of San Pedro de Macorís, and Minister Cabrera, whom he considers a man committed to improving the living conditions of Dominicans.

Regarding the agreement
With the agreement, Propeep commits to supplying the resources for the design and construction, through the Dominicana Digna program, of 50 of the ecological homes; supply, operation and maintenance of the equipment and tools to be used in the process and the identification of the vulnerable families that will benefit, as well as the payment of salaries, travel expenses and per diems of the staff who will provide their services in the project.
While the City Council must make available, free of charge, the necessary land, prepared and enabled, for housing, as well as the installation of the drinking water system, sanitary and rain drainage, environmental sanitation in relation to the disposal of solid waste, sewage, the installation of electric lighting, construction and conditioning of streets and green areas, parks and gardens among others.
