They sign the SD2050 Public Trust contract for the planned development of the Santo Domingo province

This trust will have a short-term impact that will translate into attracting foreign investment that generates employment, in addition to resolving the issue of planning in a vulnerable area and giving economic mobility to lands that would normally be undervalued or invaded.” Andrés Vander Horst.

SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, through the Unit for the Promotion of Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development of the province of Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo 2050), signed the contract of the Public Trust SD2050, an instrument that will promote economic activities and planned and orderly development throughout the province.

The role of the Ministry of Economy in this agreement is to be the representative of the Dominican State, in its capacity as trustor and beneficiary of said public trust.

The contract was signed by the Minister of Economy, Pável Isa Contreras, and the General Manager of Fiduciaria Reservas, Andrés Vander Horst. The signing took place in the presence of the Senator for the province of Santo Domingo, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, and the Executive Director of the Santo Domingo 2050 initiative, Edgar García Cabrera.

Minister Isa Contreras emphasized the challenge of organizing the growth and development of Santo Domingo province, one of the most populated in the country, with the aim of creating opportunities and improving the quality of life for its people.

“That level of population density and economic activity requires an integrated approach to the development of the province, where settlements can develop harmoniously and economic activities do not conflict with each other or with the environment,” the economist and researcher stated.

Manager Andrés Vander Horst described public trusts as instruments of economic development and planning, and highlighted the confidence they generate for investors.

“This trust will have a short-term impact that will translate into attracting foreign investment that generates employment, in addition to resolving the issue of planning in a vulnerable area and giving economic mobility to lands that would normally be undervalued or invaded,” he explained.

Senator Antonio Taveras stated that the SD2050 plan is an opportunity to begin to see the development of the Dominican Republic in an orderly manner in each of its territories and with a long-term vision.

Also present at the event were the Deputy Minister of Administration and Finance of the Ministry of Economy, Yamel Valera; the Chief of Staff, Manuel Robles; and the Director of Promotion of the Development Councils, Horacio Medrano.

Boost to planned development

The SD2050 Public Trust will serve to, in addition to managing the resources from the Fund for the Promotion of Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development of the Province of Santo Domingo, generate economic activities and promote planned development and territorial planning in each of its municipalities.

Furthermore, this subscription will allow the implementation of the Provincial Development Strategy SD2050, which will serve as a legal, operational and financial vehicle to boost the productivity of the areas surrounding the Circunvalación Avenue, and will promote public and private investment.

The agreement is framed within the National Multi-Year Public Sector Plan (PNPSP), the National Development Strategy (END) and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, in its objectives on decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; and sustainable cities and communities.

The objective of this plan is to counteract the concentrated population rate of the Santo Domingo province, the highest in the country and one of the highest in the entire Caribbean region, as well as to find a solution to the chaos in vehicular traffic.

This initiative will have an effect in seven municipalities: Santo Domingo Este, Pedro Brand, San Antonio de Guerra, Santo Domingo Oeste, Bajos de Haina, Los Alcarrizos and Santo Domingo Norte.
