SANTO DOMINGO.- Banco Popular Dominicano was recognized as "Bank of the Year" by the financial magazine The Banker, marking the fourteenth time that the prestigious international publication has distinguished the banking entity with this award.
The Banker, in its December edition, praises the bank for its efforts to facilitate the country's return to normalcy, maintain healthy growth in its financial indicators, and at the same time, constantly innovate to improve the customer experience and encourage the transition to a less environmentally impactful economy.
The magazine highlights Banco Popular's digital leadership, emphasizing that it is the first bank in the country to facilitate the filing and tracking of claims through its mobile application, the App Popular, without the need to visit a branch, an innovation even at a regional level.
“The bank is on the right track in terms of its digital transformation and the modernization of its portfolio,” the magazine emphasizes, also highlighting the implementation of biometric authentication for becoming a client, among other features enabled in the Popular App.
The Banker points to the expansion of the Hazte ECO green finance portfolio and, within it, the increased financing for hybrid and electric vehicles and the installation of solar panels, in addition to alternative financing products such as green leasing, as well as the issuance of a green bond to further Popular's commitment to sustainability.
The magazine, a leader in financial intelligence, highlighted the active work of the Dominican banking entity to increase the inclusion of broad sectors of the population in the country's financial system, developing an online education platform (www.finanzasconproposito.edu.do) that, free of charge, offers users content and certifications to improve their financial education and health.
Popular's CEO, Christopher Paniagua, praised the award, attributing its success to "the trust of our customers and the tireless work of our teams of collaborators, executives, and support staff," which enabled the bank to continue providing financial services that "have improved the quality of life of our users, responding to their needs and generating value for them.".
The Banker's "Banks of the Year" awards have been presented since 2000. Winners are chosen based on the magazine's analysis of financial information and projects from financial intermediation entities in more than 120 countries, which compete with their local counterparts.
