SANTO DOMINGO. - Tourism Minister David Collado assured that despite the snowstorms affecting several US cities and in Canada, the Dominican Republic will surpass the 7 million tourist arrival mark this year, the highest number of visitors the country has ever received.
He revealed that despite the weather situation in the United States, the main source market for tourists to the country, "30,000 foreign visitors arrived last Wednesday alone.".
Minister Collado addressed the issue of visitor arrivals after holding a meeting in his office with representatives of the Tourism Cabinet on security matters.

He cited as a positive outcome the fact that reservations are at full capacity in all hotels across the country, as well as with airlines, so "we are doing well.".
He stated that, as a result of the evaluation at the meeting, so far there have been no unfortunate incidents involving tourists in the different destinations, hotels, or airports.
Collado specified that President Luis Abinader requested that the Tourism Cabinet, in matters of security, meet to reinforce preventive measures in tourist areas due to the increase in end-of-year festivities.
This meeting of the tourist security agencies with Minister Collado was attended by the directors of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, of the Specialized Airport Security Corps, Colonel Pilot Floreal Suárez Martínez; and of the Tourist Police (POLITUR), General Minoru Matsunaga.
Also present were Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, president of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, director of DIGESETT.
