The Comprehensive Tourism and Urban Development Program for the Colonial City of Santo Domingo has begun fieldwork to conduct a census and survey of businesses, residents, and tourist visitors in the historic center.

The census and business survey will allow for the collection of data necessary for the design and development of the revitalization work being carried out in the Colonial City. Surveys of residents and visitors will provide the input for updating the Colonial City's Carrying Capacity Monitoring System.

The collection of this information will be carried out by the firm Gallup Dominican Republic, which was selected through a competitive process.

The data collected will serve as input for the formulation of an economic development strategy to stimulate business growth and private investment, promote job creation, and increase the standard of living of the inhabitants and the quality of the visitor experience.

This work began in the first week of September and will last approximately three weeks. It will be carried out by four teams of eight properly identified interviewers, who will mark the surveyed establishments with a sticker. Data collection will take place from Monday to Sunday, from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Comprehensive Tourism and Urban Development Program for the Colonial City of Santo Domingo

Its main objective is the revitalization of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo through the consolidation of the cultural tourism offer and the recovery of public spaces, historical monuments and museums; the improvement of living conditions for residents; the development of local economies; and the strengthening of the tourism, cultural and urban management of the historic center.

The project involves a $90 million investment, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). It will benefit residents and businesses in the Colonial City, as well as domestic and international tourists visiting the area.

The Ministry of Tourism is the Implementing Agency of the Program, acting through the Program Coordinating Unit (UCP) and in coordination with the Mayor's Office of the National District and the Ministry of Culture.
