SANTO DOMINGO – The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención, stated that the construction industry in the Dominican Republic plays a fundamental role, as shown by figures from the Central Bank, which indicate that this sector has been the largest contributor to the significant economic recovery recorded in 2021 under the government of President Luis Abinader.

Ascención participated in the first meeting of the Association of Master Builders of Authorized Works (Amacoa), with the presence of 112 member unions, representing the South, East, North and Metropolitan regions.

He explained that the role of master builders is also fundamental in the execution of a project, "because of their accumulated experience, they avoid mistakes and see solutions to problems that are not learned in university classrooms.".

The official urged construction workers to continue their training and recruit new members, "because this will guarantee the organization's continuity over time, which must be preserved, and they can count on him personally, and the Ministry of Public Works."

He said that in all areas of construction, professionals need training and certification. “Here we need certified electricians, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers in all trades, painters, and we need to train them in finance,” Ascención said.

Meanwhile, the president of Amacoa, José Cedeño Davison, considered that this meeting pursues objectives such as the permanent training of the members of this union, strengthening their unity and defending the rights gained in the laws that are related to them, such as 87-01 and 6-86, to be at the forefront of the new times.

Cedeño Davison announced that the Construction Masters Association will train master builders and technicians in the area, with the endorsement and support of the National Institute of Technical and Professional Training (Infotep).

He said that the creation of this school is of vital importance to teachers, because through it its members will be trained in new construction methods, and kept up-to-date in the use of new products on the market.

Those present at the event included Juan Ramon Tejada, vice president of the Association of Master Builders of Authorized Works; Julio César Féliz Nivar, secretaries; Eligio Rosario, Octavio Valdez Landa, from Organization; Apolinar Cabrera; Nelson Féliz Olivero and Hugo García, among others
