According to Wikipedia records, George Samuel Clason was a writer and soldier who was born in Louisiana, Missouri, and studied at the University of Nebraska, serving in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War.
He founded two companies: Clason Map Company in Denver, Colorado, the first company to publish a road map of the United States and Canada; and Clason Publishing Company
Clason, who died in 1957, was best known for writing a series of informational pamphlets on thrift and financial success. He began writing them in 1926, using parables from ancient Babylon.
Banks and insurance companies began distributing the parables, and the most famous were compiled in the book *The Richest Man in Babylon*. He is credited with coining the phrase "Pay yourself first," according to Wikipedia.
