SANTO DOMINGO.-The plane carrying President Luis Abinader and his delegation to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American States (CELAC) in Argentina suffered an electrical problem, causing the president to change aircraft.
According to a source, Abinader and his entourage departed from San Isidro Airport (Air Base) on a U.S. plane. Seventeen minutes into the flight, the pilot noticed an electrical problem and returned to San Isidro.
Upon landing in San Isidro, the president and the crew took a helicopter to Punta Cana International Airport, from where they departed for Argentina.
The flight carrying the president, accompanied by the administrative minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza; the vice minister of Foreign Affairs, Silié; as well as his assistants Eilyn Beltran and Mercedes Pichardo and the director of Cusep, Brigadier General of the ERD, Jimmy Arias, departed at 6:52 this afternoon.
The information was also confirmed by the Presidential Spokesperson who wrote, through his Twitter account, that the president had to change planes due to an electrical problem.
“The aircraft carrying President @luisabinader returned to San Isidro Airport due to an electrical malfunction. As a precaution, the President changed aircraft and departed for Argentina from Punta Cana Airport,” said Homero Figueroa.
President Abinader, who will speak at the Summit, will return to the country next Wednesday. The CELAC Summit includes the 33 countries of the region.
