SANTIAGO.– Since January 20th of this year, the Santiago Ring Road toll station has had an exclusive Rapid Pass lane in both directions, announced yesterday the general director of the RD Vial trust, Jean Luis Rodríguez.
The official indicated that with this new measure, traffic on that ring road will be more efficient for the benefit of citizens who use that road.
Through his Twitter account, Rodríguez explained that their mission is to implement the Rapid Transit system at every station nationwide in order to continue improving the flow of traffic throughout the road network.
“Starting today, the Santiago Ring Road toll plaza has an exclusive Paso Rápido RD lane, a service it did not have before. Our mission is for every toll plaza nationwide to have this facility to continue improving the flow of traffic across the entire road network,” he wrote.
The highway, which began operating in 2014, also features multiple lanes for both light and heavy vehicles. On August 22nd, President Luis Abinader inaugurated a 4.8-kilometer extension, adding to the existing 26 kilometers.
It also has 34 grade-separated intersections and two interchanges, as well as a toll plaza. Its route passes through the municipalities of Puñal, Tamboril, Licey al Medio, Santiago de los Caballeros (San Francisco de Jacagua), and Villa González, according to Red Vial's website.
Since its opening, this avenue allows vehicles coming from or going from Santo Domingo to the Northwest Line, the Northeast or the North Coast to not necessarily have to pass through the center of the city of Santiago.
One day after his speech marking two years in office, President Luis Abinader completed a schedule of inaugurating public works projects in this province, totaling over 1 billion pesos.
In addition, it reduces travel time and fuel consumption for those heading to other destinations.
