The New York Times puts Miches on the international radar

Being included in the “52 Places to Go” list puts Miches available to millions of international travelers, investors, and tour operators looking for new and authentic experiences.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The inclusion of Miches, in the province of El Seibo, in the prestigious “52 Places to Go” list of the New York Times marks a milestone for Dominican tourism and consolidates this emerging destination as the country's newest operational tourist hub, with international projection.

The recommendation from the influential American newspaper not only validates the natural appeal of Miches, but also reinforces the tourism diversification strategy promoted by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which focuses on sustainable, less saturated destinations with a strong local identity.

In its annual selection, the New York Times highlights Miches as a still little-explored enclave of the Caribbean, valuing its extensive and tranquil beaches, its proximity to ecosystems such as Laguna Limón, Montaña Redonda and whale watching areas, as well as the planned tourism development model, oriented towards low environmental impact.

International endorsement

This recognition represents a significant boost for the destination's promotion, as it comes from one of the most influential global tourism recommendation platforms.
Miches has become one of the Ministry of Tourism's flagship projects, showcased as a spearhead of the Dominican Republic's tourism offerings at international fairs, including Fitur, where the country has promoted the destination as an example of the new Dominican tourism model: sustainable, inclusive, and territorially balanced.

Impact on investment and positioning

The visibility provided by the New York Times usually translates into greater interest from tour operators, airlines and hotel developers, as well as an increase in the curiosity of the independent traveler, a key segment for destinations in the consolidation phase.

Unlike established tourist destinations such as Punta Cana or Puerto Plata, Miches is positioning itself as an alternative for orderly growth, with opportunities for community-based tourism, local gastronomy, and the integration of local communities into economic development.
A destination "before it changes."

The New York Times narrative places Miches in the category of destinations worth visiting before mass tourism transforms its essence, a description that connects with current trends in the international market and reinforces the country's image as a regional leader in responsible tourism.

With this recognition, Miches not only gains visibility, but also consolidates itself as a symbol of the new stage of Dominican tourism, in which expansion goes hand in hand with sustainability and planning.
