SANTO DOMINGO- The CAF-Development Bank of Latin America has created a Tourism Directorate to support its members in harnessing their tourism potential as a development factor and job creator, a department headquartered in the Dominican capital.
This new direction of CAF, which is already operational, places special emphasis on environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability, as well as innovation, regeneration and inclusion, the entity reported this Wednesday in a statement.
The CEO of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados, highlighted the growth potential of the sector and the synergy that can be promoted from this direction, which represents "a new contribution to the sustainable development and integration" of its members through tourism and the promotion of a work agenda with the public and private sectors of Latin America and the Caribbean to boost a key area in the generation of employment and foreign exchange.
The Tourism Directorate, which strengthens relations between the institution and the Dominican Republic, will be headed by Oscar Rueda García, who was president of the Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato), vice minister of Tourism for more than six years and president of the World Federation of Travel Agents Associations and member of the UNWTO Executive Committee for four years.
The CAF-Development Bank of Latin America's mission is to promote sustainable development and regional integration by financing public and private sector projects, providing technical cooperation and other specialized services.
Established in 1970 and currently made up of 21 countries (19 from Latin America and the Caribbean, along with Spain and Portugal) and 13 private banks, it is one of the main sources of multilateral financing and an important generator of knowledge for the region.
