SANTO DOMINGO- The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announced yesterday, Thursday, the addition of new air operations to connect the Caribbean country with seven destinations in South America, according to statements by the entity's president, José Marte Piantini, during the ordinary session.
The routes would be operated by Arajet, which submitted an amendment to its Economic Authorization Certificate (EAC) to include the routes between Santo Domingo/Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santo Domingo/Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Santo Domingo/Asunción, Paraguay; Santo Domingo/Montevideo, Uruguay; Santo Domingo/Chile; Santiago/Bogotá, Colombia and Santiago/Medellín, Colombia.
The company also requested the necessary permits to connect Santiago de los Caballeros with Bogotá and Medellín (Colombia), according to a press release from the JAC.
According to information provided by the Statistics Division of the Department of Air Transport, Arajet would be offering approximately 216,050 seats to the market and would transport an average of 121,119 passengers to and from the requested routes.
None of the routes required by Arajet are included in the operating permits or economic authorization certificates of any other operator, the note states.
Although there are no exact dates yet, the JAC states that routes to and from Argentina and Bolivia will be in operation during this first semester, and in the second semester connecting flights with Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile will begin.
Also, during the ordinary session of the aviation body, the request for amendment to the operating permit of the foreign operator Rutas Aéreas (Rutaca) was made known, to include the routes between the Venezuelan cities of Maracaibo and Barquisimeto and Santo Domingo.
This operator's plan is to operate two flights a week, on Mondays and Fridays on the route to Maracaibo, and one flight a week, every Saturday, on the route to Barquisimeto, using B-737-300 aircraft with a capacity of 120 and 145 seats.
New routes
The JAC also received the request to amend the operating permit of JetBlue Airways Corporation to include routes to connect Punta Cana and Santiago de los Caballeros with the city of Orlando, Florida, United States.
The start of operations for these two new routes is scheduled for November 4, 2023, and will be carried out using Airbus A320-232 aircraft with a capacity of 162 seats, with a frequency of one flight per week, every Saturday.
