The Direct Cost Index for Housing Construction registered a slight decrease in August, according to the ONE

SANTO DOMINGO- In August of this year 2023, the Direct Housing Construction Cost Index (ICDV) was 216.61 on average, registering a decrease of -0.12 points, compared to the previous month which was 216.87, according to data from the National Statistics Office (ONE).

By cost group, the main decrease was produced by subcontracts, with a monthly variation of -1.21%, and by cost subgroup the main decrease was explained by the blacksmithing subcontract, with -8.79%.

The ONE states that the ICDV registered a monthly variation of -0.12%, maintaining that this result is lower compared to that presented in the same period of the previous year which was -0.26%.

 By type of housing, the ICDV was 219.31 for single-family housing on one level; 218.81 for single-family housing on two levels; 213.09 for multi-family housing on four levels; and 215.24 for multi-family housing on eight levels or more.

By cost group, the largest decrease was in subcontracts, at -1.21%, and the largest increase was in materials, at 1.05%. Machinery saw a 0.46% increase.

By cost subgroups, the largest decreases were seen in blacksmithing subcontracts, with -8.79%; carpentry subcontracts, with -3.15%; and PVC pipes and fittings, with -0.89%. Meanwhile, the largest increases were in miscellaneous electrical supplies, with 11.02%; followed by hollow clay blocks, with 6.35%; and boat subcontracts, with 5.66%.

The ICDV is a statistical tool that allows us to know the monthly variations experienced by the cost of construction of four types of housing: single-family homes of 1 and 2 levels, and multi-family homes of 4 and 8 levels or more, in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo (indirect costs such as: land, design, construction permits, financial costs, profits of the construction company, etc. are excluded)
