SANTO DOMINGO.– The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Francisco Camacho, announced this Thursday that the Government of President Luis Abinader will provide facilities for employees of that agency, leaders, directors, athletes and sports journalists to have the opportunity to acquire their own home through the Happy Housing Plan program.
He revealed that a total of 1,500 apartments will be available for the sports class, located in Ciudad Juan Bosch, Santo Domingo Oeste and Santiago.
In that regard, he stated that on Monday the 14th, Wednesday the 16th, and Thursday the 17th of this month, a series of talks will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning, from 11:00 to 1:00 in the afternoon, and from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon to provide more details to the national sports community, especially regarding this new initiative of the Government presided over by Luis Abinader for Dominican athletes.
The lecture series will be held in the auditorium of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, where participants will be divided into three groups of about 150 people each.
“I have already spoken about this with Mr. Lisandro Macarulla, Minister of the Presidency, and this represents a great opportunity for all those involved in the sports sector to have their own homes,” Camacho said, referring to President Abinader’s strong interest in improving the quality of life for athletes.
Camacho maintained that those who ultimately meet the requirements to obtain their home will be deserving of the grace bonus granted by the Government, and that the installments to be paid will be truly affordable.
“This dream has come true, the president has just granted us 1,500 apartments for the sports sector and you as journalists are one of its main pillars and everyone has the right to choose a home,” the official added.
Camacho expressed himself in those terms at the end of the ceremony recognizing the experienced journalist Heriberto Morrison, by the Association of Sports Chroniclers of Santo Domingo (ACD).

40 new facility repairs
Camacho, on the other hand, stated that starting next week the institution he leads will take over the repair and construction of some 40 sports facilities, which are in addition to those currently being carried out at a cost of about 200 million pesos.
Barahona swimming pool rescue
Another noteworthy piece of news that Camacho offered is the rescue of the swimming pool at the Barahona Sports Center, which has been forgotten for several decades.
“That has been our mission since we arrived here; we have combed much of the country in search of rescuing each of the vital works to return them in magnificent condition to the young Dominican athletes residing in the different districts,” Camacho said.
Olympic Village apartments delivered
The minister also specified that in the coming days he will receive three of the five buildings that make up the Olympic Village, located in Santo Domingo East, properly repaired.
“These (works) could be completed by the end of this month at the latest, and when this happens, Dominican athletes could be returning to what has been their home for many years,” he added.
In that regard, he said that renovations have already begun on the other two facilities with the goal of improving the quality of life for Dominican athletes and coaches.SPONSORED CONTENT
