The project is scheduled to begin in 2025 under the public-private partnership model and with international cooperation.
PUNTA CANA, LA ALTAGRACIA PROVINCE- The first higher education school of Tourism in the Dominican Republic, which will aim to raise the knowledge of workers dedicated to that sector in the country, was announced yesterday Thursday by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), within the twenty-fourth edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), a business activity that concludes today Friday in the eastern zone.
“The truth is that we have to raise and strengthen the level of the chain employees in the area if we firmly believe in the diversity of tourism in the Dominican Republic,” the official declared when making the announcement.
He commented that the school will be carried out under a public-private partnership and in conjunction with international cooperation, with a projected amount of more than 20 million dollars, with a start date set for the year 2025.
"If we continue to raise awareness among hotel staff, there is no doubt that we will have sustainable tourism. I am determined to leave that legacy as Minister of Tourism," Collado stated.
To avoid "improvisations" with a pioneering initiative in the eastern region, the authorities intend to negotiate with an international franchise that has experience in this type of specialized academies, in order to bring that model to Punta Cana, explained the Minister of Tourism.
Diario Libre explains in a publication this Friday, April 26, "that the project has two necessary aspects to start: an initial capital of 20 million dollars, resulting from savings in the budget of the Ministry of Tourism that will be reinvested for the construction of the school and the land, which will be donated by Grupo Puntacana.".

The minister's announcement was made within the framework of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange, organized by the Dominican Republic Hotel and Tourism Association (Asonahores), where more than 800 participants from 300 buyer and supplier companies met, allowing more than 8,000 business appointments to be scheduled in two days.
“We invite you to be active, interested participants, and to continue betting on the Dominican tourism product,” said David Llibre, president of the hoteliers.
He added that “what we are achieving together shows that tourism is important for Dominicans, but it is also and will continue to be a good investment and source of benefits for our partners in every market.”.
