SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Government, through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), announced this Wednesday that it has established new air operations to and from the national territory with the United States, Madrid, Canada and El Salvador, as reported by the president of the organization, José Marte Piantini, during the fourth ordinary session of this 2024.
At the beginning of the session, the president of the organization reiterated that air connectivity is a key factor in boosting the productive sectors of the Dominican Republic and communicated the request from the foreign airline Frontier to include the following routes: Cleveland/Punta Cana/Orlando; Orlando/Punta Cana/Cleveland; Philadelphia/Punta Cana/St. Louis; St. Louis/Punta Cana/Philadelphia; San Juan/Punta Cana/Cleveland; San Juan/Punta Cana/St. Louis; St. Louis/Punta Cana/San Juan; Cleveland/Punta Cana/San Juan; Fort Lauderdale/Punta Cana/San Juan and San Juan/Punta Cana/Fort Lauderdale.
According to the market study presented by Frontier, it projects to start operations with Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft, with a frequency of three to seven flights per week and estimates to transport 497,637 passengers.
Similarly, with the aim of keeping Dominicans more connected by air with other parts of the world, the members of the plenary were informed of the request for a Special Permit from the air operator Air Europa, to operate flights on the Madrid/Santiago/Madrid route, from June 27 to September 7, 2024, with a frequency of two weekly flights, on Thursdays and Saturdays.
They also learned of the request for another Special Permit from West Jet Airlines, to operate on the Calgary/Punta Cana/Calgary route, with a frequency of one flight per week, on Saturdays.
The Canadian operator's request is to conduct passenger and cargo flights from May 4 to October 26, 2024.
Marte Piantini pointed out that this operator, from January 2023 to January 2024, transported 227,698 passengers in 1,445 operations carried out in arrivals and departures.
Likewise, the members of the plenary approved the request for amendment to the Economic Authorization Certificate (CAE), of the national air operator Sky High Aviation, to include the Santo Domingo/El Salvador/Santo Domingo route.
According to the market study presented by the operator, the plan is to begin with two ERJ190 aircraft, each with a capacity of 97 seats, operating three flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. During the first six months of operation, based on this flight frequency, the operator expects to offer approximately 13,968 seats and transport an average of 8,474 passengers.
