Visitors during Holy Week represented $242 million for the hotel sector and more than 1.6 billion pesos in purchases from the agricultural sector.
SANTO DOMINGO- The Dominican Republic experienced a significant boost in tourism, registering the arrival of 1,020,646 visitors last April, representing a 7 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to statistics provided by the Ministry of Tourism.
This was reported by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, when presenting, as every month, the sector report, this time from Santiago de los Caballeros.
The official noted that the arrival of 1,020,646 visitors in April represents an increase of 7% compared to the same month in 2024, 18% compared to 2023, and 55% compared to 2019.
He said that in the first four months of this year the country received 4,369,288 visitors, another record figure in the history of Dominican tourism.

"That means those 4,369,288 visitors represent a 4% increase compared to the same period last year, 17% compared to 2023, and 50% compared to 2019. Tell me if those aren't historic figures," Collado said.
He explained that of the amount received in the January-April period, 3,069,832 arrived by air and 1,299,456 arrived by sea.
He indicated that the ranking of arrivals by air, at that time, is headed by the Punta Cana airport with 64%, followed by Las Américas with 19%, Cibao with 9%, Puerto Plata with 6% and Romana with 2%.
During his presentation, in the presence of business owners, hoteliers and other industry players from the productive Cibao region, David Collado highlighted the number of tourists who visited the country during Holy Week.
He reported that 201,889 tourists arrived in the country during Holy Week, reaching a hotel occupancy rate of over 85%.
"That visit during Holy Week represented $242 million for the hotel sector and more than 1.6 billion pesos in purchases from the agricultural sector," he said.
