SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Republic is starting 2025 with a very active year in terms of cruise ship arrivals at its main ports, marking a trend that the number of visitors to the country will continue to rise via maritime vessels.
Yesterday, Thursday, January 2nd, President Luis Abinader announced via his Twitter account the arrival at the port of Pedernalesoftheship with 2,593 visitors and 976 crew members on board, the first to arrive this year.
Similarly, the two tourist ports of the city of Puerto Plata will receive 81 cruise ships in January 2025, 27 through Amber Cove and 54 through Taíno Bay, according to Carlos Atahualpa Paulino, Regional Director North of the Ministry of Tourism.

"I am happy to start the year seeing how the dream of tourism development in the south is becoming a reality that benefits the entire region and the country. We continue working for a future full of opportunities for Pedernales and the entire Dominican Republic," the president wrote on the aforementioned social network.
The Norwegian Jewel cruise ship from Norwegian Cruise Line is expected to arrive on January 7th, and the Costa Fascinosa ship from Costa Cruises is expected to arrive on the 18th, bringing the total to three ships arriving in January 2025, according to the digital portal Infotur Dominicano.

Carlos Atahualpa Paulino highlighted the importance of the start of the year for the economy of Puerto Plata, the positive impact this generates for the development of the area which he considered invaluable, consolidating it as a key pillar in the growth of tourism and the country's economy, he stated.
Since its inauguration in 2015, Amber Cove Port has marked a turning point for cruise tourism in the northern region of the country. This momentum was further strengthened with the opening of Taíno Bay in 2021, reaffirming Puerto Plata as the leading cruise destination in the country and the Caribbean.
With these figures and the continued growth of the sector, Puerto Plata continues to position itself as a leading tourist destination, offering unique experiences for those who come to its shores.
