The land of merengue takes the lead among Caribbean countries, followed by Aruba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and St. Maarten, which complete the top 5 of the regional ranking.
Globally, the Dominican Republic is the only destination to appear in the top 10 as a country, while the other destinations are cities, which is due to the country brand positioning strategy, above some of the nation's particular destinations such as Punta Cana, Puerto Plata and Samaná, among others.
Dubai tops the list of the world's 10 most popular tourist destinations, followed by Bali, London, Rome, Paris, Cancun, Crete, the Dominican Republic, and Istanbul. This positions the country as a more popular destination than Barcelona, Madrid, or New York, for example.
