The building consists of 54,000 square meters of construction, four levels for offices, will be equipped with more than 20 courtrooms, and a parking level that will accommodate more than 400 vehicles.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Minister of Public Works and Communications, MOPC, Deligne Ascención, highlighted that the construction of the Palace of Justice in the province of Santo Domingo is receiving its final touches in preparation for its inauguration by President Luis Abinader.
The project, which is being built in Santo Domingo East, is in an advanced stage and it is estimated that in the first quarter of 2024 it will be ready to be handed over to the judicial authorities.
During a supervisory tour of the construction project, Ascención stated that "the final touches are being made for its completion and subsequent handover to both the Judiciary and the Public Ministry in the first quarter of 2024.".
The official recalled that President Luis Abinader's government found the project only 20 percent complete, since its inception in 2013, and has committed to ensuring that the construction is carried out with high standards of quality, given its importance to the citizens and the principle of continuity of the State.
He explained that this project has a great impact because it will serve the largest population in the judicial departments, which is the province of Santo Domingo, with 2.9 million inhabitants.
“This is undoubtedly the most important government project built for the Dominican Republic’s judicial system in the last 50 years, and it represents the dignification of this important branch of government,” he stated, according to a press release from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).
The structure will house the new facilities of the SDE Courthouse, the Provincial Ministry, the Public Defender's Office, a judicial city concept facilitating the separation of each of the actors in the justice administration system.
“The conditions under which justice has been administered have been quite deplorable; fortunately, a radical change is coming in this great construction project that is being developed,” he said.
Engineer Raúl Rizek, representing Constructora Rizek, the firm in charge of the project, explained that the building consists of 54,000 square meters of construction, four levels for offices, will be equipped with more than 20 courtrooms, and a parking level that will accommodate more than 400 vehicles.
It was designed with functionality in mind, while also considering its connection to the community, integrating both the community and nature. The facilities will be smart, environmentally friendly, and will offer a dignified space for both users and judicial staff, the official stated.
Rizek highlighted the quality of the products used, a certified fire system, structured cabling, supplementary power, as well as the concrete and steel structures with anti-seismic and wind resistance capacity (storms and hurricanes).
During the tour, the following were present: the Vice Minister of Supervision and Inspection, Roberto Herrera; the Director of Buildings, Wilfredo Abreu; the Head of Budget for Works, Sheila Valerio, among others.
