SANTO DOMINGO.-Taking advantage of the significant boom in real estate development experienced by that area in recent years, the Association of Construction Companies of Santo Domingo East (ACOSDE), made up of a group of women and men linked to the construction sector of that municipality.
“The association aims to bring together men and women dedicated to the construction industry and related sectors, with the goal of promoting and leading planned, safe and sustainable development, as well as serving as an economic engine for the city of Santo Domingo Este in collaboration with the country's private and public sectors,” highlights a press release from the organization.
The president of ACOSDE, engineer Riubell Montes de Oca, said during the presentation ceremony that construction represents one of the most important engines of the national economy, contributing nearly 20% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Dominican Republic.
He explained that despite the progress made in housing construction in the country, the housing deficit remains above 1,500,000 units, with approximately 64% of these concentrated in Greater Santo Domingo and the National District. “There are no precise statistics on this or other issues regarding the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, and one of the association's objectives is to obtain statistics for our sector and city.”.
For his part, the vice president of the association, engineer Pedro Molina, stated that 7 years ago, in a scenario where private investment in residential projects in the area perhaps did not exceed $1 billion pesos and with the intention of motivating private capital to invest in SDE, they achieved approval in Alma Rosa 1ra, for a 25-story apartment tower.

The press release highlights that ACOSDE's immediate agenda includes meetings with the main candidates for mayor of Santo Domingo East, with the aim of listening to their work plans, as well as presenting the concerns of the union, challenges and initiatives of the sector, in order to improve interaction with the government entities involved in the process of building that dynamic municipality.
Directive 2024-2026
The first ACOSDE board, which will serve a two-year term from 2024 to 2026, is also composed of Diógenes Cruz, Secretary; Rafael Agramonte, Deputy Secretary; Junior Cepeda, Treasurer; Darío Soler, 1st Member and coordinator of the logistics and media committee; Carlos Leonardo, 2nd Member and coordinator of the finance committee; and Ana Contreras, 3rd Member and coordinator of the technical committee.
Also Wilson Reyes, 4th Member, coordinator of the public/private processing commission; Otilio Barrientos, 5th Member, coordinator of the educational, training and professional commission; and Jorge Soler, 6th Member, coordinator of the legal commission.
